Presentation
"Foyer de l'Espérance" is a group of initiatives aimed at the rehabilitation of street children and young boys and girls into families and society in the city of Yaoundé, Cameroon.
We are a non-profit association, recognised by the State and working in cooperation with public and private services.
The State of Cameroon has recognised this entity as a reference organisation in the country for matters concerning street children.
"Foyer de l'Espérance" began its activities in 1997 when Frère Ives Lescanne was named chaplain of the under-aged inmates wing at the Central Prison of Yaoundé. That very year, given that most of the inmates in the wing had been homeless during childhood, the work of approaching homeless children and providing them shelter began. This work has continued for many years and is still going on now.
Today there are three homes in addition to The Social and Educational Centre of the under aged wing of the Central Prison in Yaoundé. There is also a meeting point for street girls where help and support is made available to them.
