Accompanying the imprisoned minors at the Central Prison
The development of this Project happens at the minors’ wing at the Central Prison of Yaoundé and the main objective is to accompany the minors and young people in jail in order to prepare them for their release, giving them economic, legal and moral support.
Specific Objectives
to organize a school inside the prison, teaching literacy and covering the curriculum up to the end of secondary level
to contact the families of the inmates
to give primary assistance and food
to promote law abiding behaviour
to support recreational and educational activities
to cooperate with local social services
to give legal support in order to speed up trials
to reinforce self esteem, self confidence and an optimistic outlook, give sense to their dignity and their personal responsibility
People who Benefit
All minors imprisoned at the Central Prison of Yaoundé aged between 17and 21 years old. (The minors’ wing has space for 60 people, currently there are 250 young people)
Despite the difficulties in carrying out this project, every year there is a group of young people taking the National Official examinations.
